Sabbath Rest
clear

She's ba-ack!! Ok, don't be upset with me...I'm human just like you. I won't make any promises, but I'm truly trying to get back in the swing of updating my blog. So much has happened since I last connected with you and so much is going on, as I'm sure is the case in your lives as well. God's peace and abundant blessings be with you my sisters!

This morning as I ran out of the house heading to church, I was reminded of the need of the Sabbath. It was a fleeting thought, mind you, that I assumed I’d ponder at some other time. Later today, while catching up with a dear friend over the phone, she stated “I’m burnt-out”. As our discussion continued, I was inspired to share with her the insight I’d had earlier about the Sabbath. I also, mentioned that she was likely burnt-out because she was all poured out. She paused. I reminded her that she gave genuinely but constantly. The way I saw it, she never rested or took time for herself. I continued that even Jesus stopped to renew in God. He valued this relationship and encouraged the disciples to take the time to restore as well. As I had understood it, the “rest” of Sabbath wasn’t necessarily meant to just not doing anything, but more purposefully meant for us to do what was most important: restore in the Lord. But as we talked today, the Sabbath concept began to expand and I realized that disconnecting from the daily pressures, stressors and worries of “the work” was an essential component of reconnecting to our Core, God the Almighty. This restoration leads to our survival. In Exodus 20:8-11, God’s commandment about the Sabbath, we are instructed explicitly on the need to rest. Could it be that God, in His infinite wisdom, wanted to remind us of the importance of regularly breaking from our daily routines in an effort to assure that we could be replenished by Him so that we could resume what must be done in our lives? Are we as obedient with this commandment as we believe we are the others? Many of us are constantly on the go and plugged into the busyness of the world and we often fail to see the importance of disconnecting and plugging into our Creator. We have been led to believe, falsely, that it is all up to us. This belief comes with a crushing amount of anxiety, confusion, frustration, exhaustion, etc. How often have you thought that if you don’t do it, it won’t get done? We give all of our attention to the work and forget to be renewed by the Source of all the work. As I told my friend during our phone chat, I am certainly the pot calling the kettle black. Thankfully, it’s becoming clearer that I can’t just recognize the importance of Sabbath rest but fail to act on it. I must trust that if I choose to honor this commandment of my Lord, He will make sure that the world continues to turn (LOL) and my portion of the work gets done. My friends in Christ, we have been instructed to rest in Him; we must believe there is no life without Him!
